Student Video Portfolio
Below are samples from music videos, films, documentaries, and other work from my students. These include pieces that have competed at various student film festivals, garnering a range of awards and accolades. Several of these samples, of course, won no awards, but are included due to the particular accomplishments that they represent from the hard work and unstoppable creativity of my students.
“Quest of a Commoner” – Foggy Morning Films (EHHS, 2010)
This film received the “Outstanding Fictional Short” award in the 84-Hour Film Challenge category at the CT Student Film Festival, as well as the 5-year Anniversary Award for “Best Story”. It was completed over three very cold, long days, in December, 2010.
“Making of ‘Quest of a Commoner'” – EHHS Media Club (2010/11)
The students of the EHHS Media Club take you behind the scenes and reveal the making of “Quest of a Commoner”, their award-winning original short film. This insightful piece includes behind the scenes clips, interviews, pictures, and more.
PSA – EHHS Media Club and SADD (2009/10)
The students of the EHHS Media Club joined with the SADD club to create this powerful PSA about teens and driving. The piece was honored as a Top 10 Finalist in the 2009/2010 DMV / Travelers Insurance sponsored Teen Safe Driving Contest.
“The Vial Truth” – Foggy Morning Films (EHHS, 2009)
In what now seems like a particularly chilling piece of filmmaking, the East Haven HS Media Club created a world in the clutches of a dangerous virus. This film received the “Outstanding Fictional Short” award in the 84-Hour Film Challenge category at the CT Student Film Festival. It was completed over three days, in December, 2009.
“Making of ‘The Vial Truth'” – EHHS Media Club (2009/2010)
The students of the EHHS Media Club pull back the curtain to reveal how their award-winning original short film “The Vial Truth” was made. This fun piece combines behind the scenes clips, pictures, and more.
“SmartGrids” – Foggy Morning Films (EHHS, 2009/10)
This well-researched spot won the award for “Outstanding PSA” at the 2010 CT Student Film Festival, in Danbury. It was completed by the DM3 students in conjunction with the EHHS Media Club.
“Hall Pass” – Video II Students (2018)
Everyone needs to have a hall pass! Or, what kind of craZy madcap adventures can ensue when you lose your hall pass!
“Einstein’s Dreams” – Senior Capstone Film (2012/13)
Based on the seminal book in which the famous physicist dreams of various versions of reality, this original student work was conceived and written by an EHHS senior for her culminating portfolio, or Capstone, production. It features an all-student cast and crew, with original recordings made at the high school, and takes advantage of several notable New Haven locations, including The Institute Library.
“Company Billboard” – The Illuminaturals (2015)
Animated company billboard for ‘The Illuminaturals”, a class-based production company in the DM3 program at EHHS. Shot with all organic optical effects, this animated logo contained various lighting cues, a projector on a rolling cart, and some cardboard letters. The entire shot was reversed in post to create the final result.
